The wheels on the bus go round and round

December 8th, 2008

I ride the city bus to work and some other places on occasion. I have a car that my husband and I share that he normally has. Every day at the terminal I am approached by several men, mostly black guys in their 40s and 50s. The fact they are black does not bother me as at most times i am the only white person at the stop.

I am not attractive to say, I am 25, kinda heavy, always in uniform. I sit with my ipod and wait for the bus. every day a man will walk up and ask if he can be my friend, says being married dont change a thing, wants to take me out, get my number, I always tell them no but its so invasive having these guys come up and harass me like this. Some are so persist ant even after I tell them i am married. Then they want to know where my husband is. Does it matter? Is there anything that can be done about this?

  1. maybe try walking with a limp? drool a little bit? shout out obscenities at random moments?

  2. You could just not take out your iPod headphones and pretend like you don’t hear/understand their gestures, although Jami had a good idea with the limping…
